Kelley Blue Book Puts Special Emphasis On Fuel Economy

Posted: 8:26 am EST February 17, 2009

The American family has never had so many choices when it comes to safe, roomy and affordable cars.

Kelley Blue Book is hoping to make the choice for families easier with its top 10 Best New Family Vehicles list for 2009.

The editors at Kelley Blue Book evaluated the vehicles on such factors as resale value, fuel efficiency, capability and kid-friendliness.

Although gas prices have fallen from their record highs this summer, the list puts extra emphasis on fuel economy.

"Given the current state of the economy, parents want to get even greater value for their money while buying a new vehicle that will also accommodate their family's lifestyle and needs," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book.

Kelley Blue Book did not rank the 10 vehicles, which range from a compact sedan and a full-size SUV to hybrids and a clean diesel vehicle.

The vehicles, listed in alphabetical order by brand, are:
  • Chevy Malibu
  • Chevy Tahoe Hybrid
  • Chevy Traverse
  • Ford Escape Hybrid
  • Honda Civic
  • Honda Odyssey
  • Toyota Camry Hybrid
  • Toyota Highlander Hybrid
  • Toyota RAV4
  • VW Jetta SportWagen TDI
