Gas Dips Below $2 In Ohio

Monday, October 27, 2008 – updated: 12:38 pm EDT October 27, 2008

After going over $3 per gallon, gas prices took months to fall below $3 again.

The trip to back down to $2 took only 18 days, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported Monday.

Gas Prices Nationwide

More than a dozen stations along I-275 in Cincinnati had gas at $1.99 a gallon on Monday morning.

OPEC's decision to cut oil production by 1.5 million barrels a day hasn't managed to overcome a freefall in oil prices.

The dropping prices combined with an almost-unprecedented drop in worldwide consumption to create the conditions that led to the falling gas prices.

The fall in gas prices has been one of the few bright spots in a recently reeling economy, though economists warn that the falling prices aren't a good sign for everyone.

For now, drivers are taking advantage while they can.

Nationwide Monday, the average price of gas per gallon was around $2.67.
