NCAA Game Summary - Albany At Villanova

Saturday, November 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - Scottie Reynolds, Dante Cunningham and Corey Stokes each scored 13 points in a balanced offensive attack, as the 23rd- ranked Villanova Wildcats opened their season with a 78-60 thumping of the Albany Great Danes.

Reynolds dished out six assists while Antonio Pena and Reggie Redding added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Villanova (1-0), which finished with a 22-13 record and a Sweet 16 appearance last season.

Will Harris and Anthony Raffa each tallied 13 points to pace Albany (0-1), which compiled a 10-6 mark in America East Conference play last season but failed to reach the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive campaign.

Albany netted just one field goal in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the first half and trailed 40-24 after 20 minutes of play.

Villanova's lead remained in double-digits, but Harris' three-point play and Tim Ambrose's layup cut the deficit to 62-51 with just over five minutes remaining.

The Wildcats rattled off eight straight points -- book-ended by a pair of makes from behind the arc -- to cool off the comeback and send the Pavilion faithful home happy.

Game Notes:

Villanova has an 18-game winning streak in Pavilion home openers...Villanova won its only previous meeting with Albany by an 86-72 final back in 2004...Albany committed 20 turnovers, while 'Nova had 14...The Wildcats announced before the game that senior guard Dwayne Anderson was out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his left foot.
