GAME NOTES: Third-day action of the NABC Classic pits the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears against the Bowling Green Falcons. Concordia played Minnesota on Friday to open this event, but the team considered that game an exhibition. Therefore, last night's clash with Georgia State was the regular season opener for the Golden Bears, and despite a solid effort in that tilt, they fell to the Panthers by a 67-63 final. The Golden Bears have managed four straight winning seasons for the first time in program history, and the Division II squad proved last night that it can hang with Division I competition. As for Bowling Green, it opened play at this event on Friday with a thrilling 77-76 overtime decision over Georgia State. Last night, the Falcons hung tough with Minnesota, but the result of that tilt was a 68-61 setback. Not surprisingly, today's game marks the first-ever meeting between Concordia-St. Paul and Bowling Green.

In last night's narrow loss to Georgia State, a 41-32 rebounding disadvantage and an 18-12 deficit in points from the foul line clearly hurt Concordia-St. Paul. The Golden Bears got a tremendous performance from Matt Cadwell, who scored 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor. Craig Heiman netted 16 points, and Sammy Ricks pitched in 10 points. The player to watch for Concordia is Craig Heiman, who is poised for a big-time junior campaign. Heiman, who scored 11.1 ppg as a freshman, boosted his average to 18.0 ppg last season. He started all 28 of the team's games and knocked down 60 three- pointers to go along with 5.1 rpg.

Bowling Green shot a lowly 26.7 percent from the floor in the first half against Minnesota last night, including a 1-of-7 effort from three-point range. After 20 minutes of play, the Falcons were trailing by 14 points. They did play better at the offensive end in the second half, but the improved performance was not enough to avoid defeat. Bowling Green finished with only 11 assists against 14 turnovers and were both outrebounded and outscored from the foul line. Darryl Clements led the way in the loss with 19 points, five assists and four steals. Joe Jakubowski tallied 12 points, and Brian Moten finished with 10 points. Otis Polk contributed 14 rebounds, but he only scored two points in 23 minutes. Jackubowski was sensational in the season-opening win over Georgia State, as he hit 6-of-8 three-pointers en route to 24 points.

Obviously, Bowling Green has the advantage in this matchup. The Falcons figure to win this contest by double figures.
