Dayton, OH -- (Sports Network) - Chris Wright and Marcus Johnson both tallied 17 points as the Dayton Flyers held on to defeat the Wofford Terriers, 52-49, in non-conference play at UD Arena. Wright and Johnson combined to shoot 14-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-8 beyond the arc for the Flyers (1-0) in their season-opening victory. The rest of the team accounted for a combined five field goals on 23 attempts. The Terriers (0-1) were paced by Junior Salters with his 15 points on 5-of-12 behind the three-point line, while Tim Johnson recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in the setback. Wofford led by a score of 19-11 with 8:49 remaining in the first half, but from there the Terriers were outscored 16-7, leaving Dayton with a narrow 27-26 advantage at the break. Late in the second half Rob Lowery converted a pair of free throws to put Dayton ahead by a 47-52 score, giving the home team enough of a cushion to hold on for the three-point win. In a game that saw seven ties and eight lead changes, Wofford hurt itself with 23 turnovers and just 4-of-10 shooting at the charity stripe.
