NCAA Game Summary - Kent State At Saint Louis

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - Al Fisher scored the last two of his game- high 35 points on a layup with three seconds remaining in overtime to lead Kent State to a 76-74 victory over Saint Louis in a non-conference matchup.

Chris Singletary and Julian Sullinger added 11 points apiece for the Golden Flashes (2-0), while Brandon Parks pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Billikens (1-1) were led by Kevin Lisch's 22 points and Tommie Liddell III's double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Golden Flashes led 24-20 at the end of the first half, as the Billikens connected on only 7-of-19 field goal attempts in the opening stanza.

Each team had a lead of six points in the second half, only to see those advantages evaporate. With Kent State trailing by two, Fisher hit a jumper with 49 seconds remaining to even the score at 57-57. After each team exchanged turnovers, Saint Louis' Kwamain Mitchell was fouled by Sullinger. Mitchell hit both free throws to put the Billikens in front 59-57 with 21 seconds left. With 14 seconds left in the game, Fisher hit another jumper to tie the game once again and was fouled on the play. Fisher would miss the free throw, and an extra session was needed to decide the outcome.

In overtime, Fisher would score 16 of the Golden Flash's 17 points, connecting on all seven of his shot attempts. His biggest shot in the extra frame occurred with just three seconds remaining, as Fisher nailed the game-winning layup.

The Golden Flashes won the game despite being outrebounded by St Louis, 37-31, and by going to the foul line 14 fewer times than the Billikens. Kent State also had a 10-point advantage in points off turnovers (18-8).
