Los Angeles, CA -- (Sports Network) - Luke Harangody posted 27 points and 17 rebounds as the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish pulled out a surprisingly tough 65-54 decision over the Loyola-Marymount Lions.

Tory Jackson logged 16 points and seven boards for Notre Dame (2-0), which shot a subpar 40.4 percent from the field and 4-of-15 from behind the arc. Sharp-shooting guard Kyle McAlarney missed all seven of his field goal attempts in the victory.

Jarred DuBois deposited 16 points thanks to hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range, and Ashley Hamilton added 10 points and five rebounds for the Lions (0-4), who have yet to break the 55-point barrier in a slow start to the young season.

Back-to-back Corey Counts three-pointers brought Loyola within 50-47 with seven minutes to play. But a layup by Harangody two minutes later was the first of seven straight points for Notre Dame, and the Lions made just one field goal down the stretch to come up short in the upset bid.

The Irish couldn't pull away in the first half and DuBois' trey made it 26-26 at roughly the six-minute mark.

Harangody's jumper several minutes later gave the Irish a 36-30 lead at the intermission.
