In their most recent showing, the Pirates suffered a 41-24 loss to Houston on September 27th.

MARSHALL - The Thundering Herd suffered its second straight defeat this past week, dropping a 33-10 decision to Cincinnati on October 3rd. Marshall turned the ball over three times and managed just 268 total yards, as it dipped to an even 3-3 overall. Quarterback Mark Cann struggled in the setback, completing only 17-of-36 pass attempts for 178 yards, with one touchdown against three interceptions. Cody Slate was his main target with seven catches for 96 yards and a score, while Darius Passmore also hauled in seven passes for 47 yards. Marshall is off this coming week before traveling to UAB for a conference showdown on October 18th.

MEMPHIS - Vinny Zaccario nailed a 25-yard field goal with two seconds remaining, lifting the Tigers to a thrilling 33-30 victory over UAB in league action this past week. It was the first road victory of the season for Memphis, which has won its last three games following an 0-3 start to the year. Arkelon Hall led the charge in the win, as he completed 18-of-28 tosses for 209 yards and four touchdowns. Carlos Singleton had a big game with five catches for 123 yards and a score, while Earnest Williams logged four receptions for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Curtis Steele even got into the mix, as he cracked the century mark for the third time in a row, rushing for 101 yards on 14 carries. Memphis will step out of the league this week to tangle with Louisville on October 10th.

SOUTHERN MISS - For the first time in the 13-year history of C-USA, the Eagles are 0-2 following a 40-37 double-overtime loss to UTEP this past weekend. USM tied the game on a last second field goal by Britt Barefoot, but was unable to stop UTEP in overtime. After the teams traded touchdowns in the first extra-session, the Eagles only managed a field goal in the second overtime, while UTEP received a touchdown pass for the win. Damion Fletcher guided USM in defeat with a career-high 260 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. Austin Davis hit on 21-of-37 pass attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns, while DeAndre Brown had eight receptions for 110 yards and a score. The Eagles will take a break from league play by hosting nationally-ranked Boise State this weekend.

UAB - The Blazers dropped a tough one this past week, as a 25-yard field goal by Vinny Zaccario with two seconds left gave Memphis a 33-30 win over UAB on October 2nd. Quarterback Joe Webb gave UAB the lead on a 10-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes to play, but the Blazers were unable to hold off the Tigers. Webb, though, was outstanding for the Blazers in the loss, accounting for four touchdowns, including three on the ground. He finished with 93 rushing yards on 18 attempts and 235 passing yards on 14-of-25 tosses. As a team, UAB rolled up 455 total yards, but that still wasn't enough to prevent it from falling to 1-4 overall. The Blazers have a quick turnaround this week, as they tussle with Houston on October 9th.

UCF - Freshman Ronnie Weaver toted 25 times for a career-high 123 yards and a touchdown, as the Knights downed SMU, 31-17, in conference play this past weekend. Michael Greco, after not taking a snap in the first half, completed 4-of-8tosses for 94 yards and two scores in the second half of the triumph. The defense even stepped up by forcing four turnovers, as the Knights snapped a three-game slide and won their first conference game of the year. UCF will step away from C-USA play this coming weekend to take on Miami-Florida of the ACC.

WEST DIVISION:

HOUSTON - Following a 41-24 upset of then nationally-ranked East Carolina on September 27th, the Cougars had the week off to focus on their upcoming bout against UAB on October 9th. Houston sits at just 2-3 on the season, but it won its only league contest thus far.

RICE - The Owls suffered their first loss in three league games this past weekend, as they simply could not slow down Tulsa in a 63-28 setback. James Casey caught nine balls for 120 yards and a score for the Owls and he also had a passing and rushing touchdown. The Mustangs will return home next weekend and try to improve on their 1-5 record in a bout with Tulsa.

Kris Adams had a pair of touchdown catches, including the game-decider in the second overtime. The Miners will take to the field this weekend, as they host Tulane in another conference battle.

TULANE - The Green Wave racked up 486 yards of total offense, but it wasn't enough to compensate for four turnovers in a 44-13 loss to Army this past weekend. Two of the miscues were returned for touchdowns by Army's defense, as Tulane saw its brief two-game win streak come to an abrupt end. Andre' Anderson led the Green Wave in defeat by rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown and catching six passes for 59 yards. Kevin Moore threw for 273 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-35 tosses, but he was also picked off twice.
