This episode of WHIO Reports will focus on the Dayton Holiday Festival 2009.
The Dayton Holiday Festival is one of the fun events happening in Downtown Dayton over the Holiday Season.
Molly Eaton, the Manager of the festival, explains that there are many inexpensive ways for families to have fun together during the holidays and most of these events are free or relatively inexpensive, thanks to partnerships with area businesses and donations from area families.
This event was started in 1972 by Virginia Kettering so that all children could enjoy the holiday season regardless of their economic means, the Festival continues today with free attractions for the community.
The celebration will kick off Friday, November 27th at 4pm with the Grande Illumination Ceremony in Courthouse Square and the Children's Parade Spectacular in Lights 2009. The event includes carriage rides, gingerbread house contests, a kids’ parade, and the main event—the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in the square. The festival is ongoing through December, with family-focused events like a tikes’ shop, light shows, movie series, and pizza with Santa.
