Darke Co. Center For Arts Presents Babes In Toyland

Posted: 1:58 pm EST November 18, 2009

Darke County Center for the Arts Family Theatre Series will present American Family Theater’s production of the Victor Herbert classic holiday show Babes In Toyland on Sunday, December 6 at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville.

According to DCCA Executive Director Julie Strait, this contemporary adaptation of the beloved show retains the memorable songs and storyline of the 1903 original while also including new music by award-winning composer Don Kersey.

Show time for Babes In Toyland is 2 p.m. Plan to arrive early and enjoy a special treat when Greenville's 4th grade show choir, the East Echoes, perform songs of the season beginning at 1:45 p.m.

Mrs. Strait stated that Babes In Toyland weaves together various characters from Mother Goose nursery rhymes to create a Christmas-themed musical extravaganza featuring glittering sets and dazzling costumes. “This rollicking show includes a spine-tingling chase through the dark woods which eventually transports the characters and the audience to Toyland, a magical place filled with wonderful toys and delicious treats,” Mrs. Strait explained. “A lot of silliness and fun ensues, and of course in the end, everyone lives happily ever after,” the DCCA Executive Director stated.

Tickets for Babes In Toyland are $5, and are available at Readmore Hallmark in downtown Greenville, Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles, and The Corner Cupboard in Union City, as well as at DCCA’s office located on the third floor of Greenville Public Library.

Tickets will also be available at the door, or may be reserved by contacting DCCA at dcca@centerforarts.net or 937-547-0908.

Family Theatre sponsors are Hope Foundation, Second National Bank, Greenville Federal, Coppock-Hole Trust, Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation, Dr. Doug Gordon, The Andersons, Edison Community College, Greenville Rotary Club, Wayne Hospital, Jon Jordan Agency, Greenville Criterion Club. DCCA also receives support from Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, and the Ketrow Foundation. In addition, the Ohio Arts Council helps fund Darke County Center for the Arts with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
