PHOENIX -- A 12-year-old girl and her dog were swept a half-mile down a flooded wash in Phoenix's West Valley during the height of a pounding monsoon.Jesse Yosua said she and her dog slipped and fell into a canal as heavy rain quickly saturated the ground."This big wave came and pushed me and my dog under the bridge," Jesse said. "We just started floating and I tried to get to the side and that didn't work.""She was trying to cross the ravine," said Debbie O'Brien, who said she witnessed the incident. "And when she did, the current got too swift."But Jesse said that wasn't true."I wasn't trying to cross it," Yosua said. "We fell in and floated down the wash."Jesse said she was able to finally cling to a rock and a tree branch until firefighters arrived."I was just concerned about my dog," Yosua said. "I didn't care. I just wanted my dog."Fire crews performed a shallow water rescue by holding onto each other and a balance stick. Firefighters said she and her dog were pulled from the water shaking, but in otherwise good condition.
