DAYTON, Ohio -- There’s new legislation on the table aimed at protecting Ohio’s children.A bill proposed on Tuesday would require licensing of those who provide child care in their homes for three or more unrelated children for pay.Right now, Ohio law only requires licensing of providers who care for seven or more unrelated children. To get licensed, a provider would have to have safety, health and home inspections as well as a criminal background check. A criminal background check would also be required for any adults who live where the child care center is located. Many in-home child care providers said they’ve been pushing for these changes for years.Ohio is one of five states in the nation that doesn’t regulate providers who care for three to six children in their home.
