  • Consider the size of the juicer you buy, because you may want it to live on your counter (versus a cabinet) all the time.
  • 1. Cut up your produce. In this case, it's cucumber, apple and celery.
  • 2. Even if it's organic, you should wash your fruits and vegetables before you juice them.
  • 3. Push the cut-up and washed produce through the chute with the plastic plunger that came with the juicer. The roughage ends up in the garbage pail (on the left), and the juice ends up in the pitcher on the right. If you want to use the roughage in your garden (instead of throwing it down the garbage disposal), you can compost it or you can mix it directly into the soil since it's already broken down.
  • 4. Take the juicer apart and rinse the parts with hot water immediately -- even before you drink the juice. If you put it off or forget about it, you will be sorry later!
  • 5. With apple or pear mixed in, the green juice is much sweeter than it looks. As you get used to the taste -- and even start to enjoy it -- you can put in less fruit and more green. For eight ounces of juice, you will use about 2-3 stalks of celery, 1 large apple and 1/2 cucumber. The exact recipe can change every day!
