The Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute (WKNI) Stroke Program will receive national recognition at the American Heart Association’s International Stroke Conference and will appear in the U.S. News and World Report “Best Hospitals” edition next year.

These honors come with a prestigious achievement award WKNI recently received.

The WKNI Stroke Program, based at Kettering and Sycamore Medical Centers, has received the Silver Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart and Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) program.

The award recognizes the commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally-accepted standards and recommendations.

The Stroke Program is recognized for the achievement of 85% or greater for seven rigorous performance measures sustained for twelve months. These include rapid evaluation of patients in emergency departments, aggressive use of medications like tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, cholesterol reducing drugs, and smoking cessation. This includes always being equipped to provide brain imaging scans, having a stroke team available to conduct patient evaluations and using clot-busting medications when appropriate.
