Pesach Poetry
The following poems were written by second-graders at a Jewish school in the Midwest.
HAG HA'AVIV
By Harris, Tamar, and TianI saw some birds in the spring.
I looked again and they started to sing.
Hag Ha'aviv, butterflies fly,
Watch them as they fly up to the sky.
HAG HAMATZOTBy Ari, Eviatar, and YishaiMatzah is really flat,
It's even flatter than a mat.
Matzah doesn't have any yeast,
I'll eat it while I'm facing East.
Now I'm at the plaza,
And we're eating lots of matzah.
It is very crunchy,
And it is really munchy.
Now we're eating matzah,
It's the Afikoman, I've got ya,
It was behind the couch,
In a little pouch.
It's time for the seder,
Bring on the water.
Now it's time to eat,
And we'll lean in my seat.

Now the sun's out,
And the flowers start to sprout.
Now Hag Ha'aviv is almost here,
And tree's budding is near.
Now we're playing outside,
And the birds start to glide.

I eat the bitter herb and shed a tear.
They put the lamb's blood on the door,
So our sons will not die anymore.

The angel of death is near.
We are filled with joy,
Our people, the angel did not destroy.
We are hoping Elijah will come,
Bitter maror burns my tongue.
We won't have any fear,
Because Pesach is here.
Z'MAN HERUTEYNUBy Amos, Eli, and MayaIf you see me free,
You will see,
I crossed the Red Sea,
And sang and danced happily.
Z'MAN HERUTEYNUBy Alan, Cecelia, and KatyWe are free,
Slaves we used to be
After we crossed the Red Sea
Happy and dancing were we.

It's fun to eat.
It's really munchy,
It's hard to beat.
Matzah is great.

Matzah is on the seder plate.
