Turner Recognizes Students Appointed To Military

Rep. Mike Turner was in Dayton Friday morning and recognized the outstanding achievements of local students on their way to military service accomplishments.

Turner annually recommends students from the Miami Valley for appointments to the United States military service academies.

This year, eight of the students who Turner recommended were offered appointments. The congressman was on hand and presented each student with a certificate honoring their achievement.

The event took place at Turner’s office in Dayton.

Members of Congress, senators and the office of the vice-president are all permitted to recommend students for appointments to the United States military service academies.

The academies are among the nation’s finest institutions of higher learning and a four-year education that has been valued as highly as $220,000.

The following are a list of the eight students chosen:

United States Military Academy
Nicholas Kern - Senior at Centerville High School. He was the captain of cross country team, received the Centerville High School Scholar Athlete Award and is a member of the French National Honor Society.

Jared Rinehart - This Franklin native is a freshman at the University of Dayton. He is also in the Army ROTC.

United States Naval Academy
Phillip Coale - Senior at Centerville High School. He runs in the cross country team, is an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Honor Society.

United States Air Force Academy
Emerson Babington - Senior at McClain High School in Greefield. He is the captain of the swimming team, a member of the National Honor Society, and participates in the marching band and pep band.

Kyle McCabe - Senior at Centerville High School High School. He is in track and cross country, a member of the Ohio Model United Nations and is a peer assistant to elementary students.

Krishna Rengan - Senior at Kettering-Fairmont High School. He is a member of the Junior Council on World Affairs, a member of the debate team and is in the marching band.

Allen Revels, Jr. - He is a senior at Springboro High School. He plays football and recreational soccer. He is a member of the marching band and is in the ROTC.

United States Air Force Prerparatory Academy
Andrew Jackson - Appointed to the Naval Academy, but is still considering attending the Air Force Preparatory School. He is a senior at Butler High School in Vandalia. He is the captain of the tennis team and has volunteered for Cincinnati's Children's Hospital fundraiser for five years.
