Beckett Headed To DL Once More

Boston, MA -- (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox placed starting pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right elbow inflammation.On Thursday, the club scratched Beckett from his scheduled start against the Chicago White Sox. He was to meet with specialist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama Friday but the results of the meeting are unknown. Daisuke Matsuzaka took the hill for Beckett on Friday, and allowed two hits over eight scoreless innings to improve to 16-2 on the year as Boston battered Chicago, 8-0. Beckett has not pitched since August 17, when he was tagged for eight hits and eight runs in only 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The 28-year-old is 11-9 this season with a 4.34 earned run average in 23 starts. To fill the roster spot, the Red Sox recalled catcher David Ross from Triple-A Pawtucket. In other roster moves prior to Friday's game, the Sox placed Sean Casey on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to August 20 with neck stiffness and shortstop Julio Lugo was transferred to the 60-day DL from the 15-day DL with a left quad strain. Also, outfielder Coco Crisp was scratched from the lineup due to flu-like symptoms. Another move will be made after the game to complete the 25-man roster.
