St. Louis Cardinals (42-31) At Detroit Tigers (50-25), 1:05 P.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers will go for a three-game interleague series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Tigers have won the first two contests of this set and were victorious in Saturday's second installment. Placido Polanco stroked an RBI double in the 10th inning for a 7-6 win, Detroit's eighth in nine games.

Curtis Granderson finished with four hits and three runs scored in his third four-hit game of the season for the AL Central-leading Tigers, who own baseball's best record at 50-25 and are 2-0 on a six-game homestand.

Detroit is a half game ahead of the Chicago White Sox in the division and 22-14 at home this season. It will send Jeremy Bonderman to the hill in Sunday's series finale.

Bonderman is 8-4 with a 3.82 ERA this season and 2-0 over the last four trips to the mound. He won his last outing on June 19 against Milwaukee, permitting only one run on four hits in seven innings.

The left-handed Bonderman has never faced the Cardinals in his career.

St. Louis will counter with right-hander Sidney Ponson. Ponson, who is 4-2 with a 5.30 ERA this season, was used in relief on June 20 versus the White Sox and hasn't won a start since May 27 against San Diego.

Ponson is 0-2 in his last four trips to the mound and 4-2 lifetime with a 6.03 earned run average against Detroit.

The Cardinals are caught in a five-game losing streak, but still lead the NL Central division by three games over Cincinnati.

On Saturday, Scott Rolen drove in two runs while David Eckstein and Scott Spiezio finished with two hits and two runs scored apiece for the Cardinals. Albert Pujols ended 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his third game back from the disabled list.

St. Louis is 0-5 on a six-game road trip and 18-18 away from Busch Stadium this season.

The Tigers won two of three games at the old Busch Stadium in 2001. Detroit is 6-2 in its last eight matchups with the Cardinals.
