Woman Finds 3-Year-Old Wandering Alone

Police in Miami Township said a 3-year-old girl was found wondering around a mobile home park alone.

The child was found around 8 a.m. Wednesday when a neighbor saw the child apparently alone, with no adults around. The neighbor called police to investigate.

Officers went to the R & S Reck mobile home community near Miamisburg and found the child with the woman who saw and heard the child alone.

Police said officers arrived and spotted a car in the driveway, but there was no answer at the front door. Convinced that someone was inside, officers walked around the home, pounding on windows, but there was no answer.

Investigators said they were worried that something may be wrong inside and forced their way into the mobile home.

Police said officers found the child’s grandmother inside the home. The grandmother told officers that she left to take an older granddaughter to school, but left a 16-year-old inside the home with the 3-year-old.

Poilce said the 3-year-old apparently woke up, saw her grandmother leaving and tried to catch up with her.

Investigators said the woman told them she did not answer the door because she was afraid she was in trouble with the law.

Police called Montgomery County Children’s Services to help the grandmother put together a safety plan so this type of incident does not happen again.

The grandmother will be cited for child endangering and for failing to cooperate with police when she did not open the door, police said.

At this time, officers said there are no plans to separate the grandmother and her granddaughters.
