It did not take long for Mary Taylor to make Ohio history. On her first day in office she became the very first certified public accountant to take the oath of office, becoming Ohio auditor.

Taylor was elected in November 2006, in the wake of the state coin scandal. In an interview with WHIOTV.COM, Taylor pledged to aggressively protect Ohio tax dollars.

“Every single tax dollar that gets spent should be spent legally and appropriately and efficiently as possible,” said Taylor.

Taylor is from Green, Ohio, near Akron. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Akron.

She began her career in politics as a city councilwoman in Green. Taylor served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives before being elected auditor.

Taylor was the only Republican non-judicial candidate to win election statewide in Ohio in 2006.
