2 Lima Campuses Evacuated After Bomb Threat

The mass shooting at Virginia Tech University has left college campuses cross the country on guard, and two Ohio colleges had to deal with their own security issues on Wednesday.

A bomb threat completely shut down a pair of college campuses in Lima. Authorities began evacuating the Lima branch of Ohio State University and Rhodes State College around 4 p.m.

Authorities conducted a rapid evacuation and made everyone leave quickly after someone called in a bomb threat to a switchboard that is shared by the two colleges.

College administrators worked with Allen County sheriff’s deputies, campus and city police to try and get everyone out of the buildings and clear the classrooms.

Sheriff Dan Beck said, “We’re going room-by-room, hallway to hallway and moving very slowly to look for any exceptional package or anything out of the ordinary.”

At one point, searchers thought they noticed an unusual item and got a robot from the Homeland Security Department to sweep the area with its camera.

Authorities discovered that the item posed no threat and nothing else was found.

Classes were cancelled Wednesday night at both campuses, but classes will resume as scheduled on Thursday morning.
