Prescott Shooting Leaves Teen Critically Injured

Thursday, May 17, 2007 – updated: 4:43 pm EDT May 17, 2007

A Dayton teenager was shot late Wednesday night, and police said that the shooting may be connected to a shooting the injured a Dunbar High School basketball star.

The most recent shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Prescott Avenue, where officers said they found found 19-year-old Joshua Bland shot in the head.

Police said that whoever pulled the trigger may have done same thing last week.

Investigators said Bland was shot after he left his girlfriend to spend some time with other friends on Wednesday night. Officers arrived and found Bland outside a Dayton apartment building.

Friends who were with Bland told police that they were talking in the parking lot when a man came out of nowhere and started firing.

Police said so far the shooting appears to be random. They said something very similar happened last week when gunfire rang out, striking Dunbar High School student Aaron Pogue and a friend.

Investigators said the two shooting happened in the same general area, and police said they are investigating to see if the two shootings are connected.

Officials at Miami Valley Hospital said they are no longer releasing updates on Bland’s condition. However, sources told News Center 7 that he is on life support, and chances of him surviving are slim.

If you have any information on the shooting or the shooting of Aaron Pogue last week, contact Dayton police at 333-COPS.
