Now: One Arrested In Meth Lab Discovery Near New Madison In Darke County

Monday, July 23, 2007 – updated: 10:19 pm EDT July 24, 2007

On a report of a loud explosion, Darke County deputies responded to a barn at 97 State Route 121 near the Darke-Preble County line. The call to 911 came at 6:02 a.m. Monday.

When firefighters and deputies arrived on the scene there was no fire, but a strong odor of a chemical emitting from the barn.

Inside the barn, deputies said they discovered evidence of an active methamphetamine drug lab.

The lab was dismantled and evidence collected and removed from the scene.

Later Monday night, deputies returned to the home on Route 121 and arrested 26-year-old Woody James Hubbard of West Alexandria.

His arrest stemmed from allegations that he intimidated and threatened witnesses in the meth lab investigation.

Hubbard was charged with illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine and intimidating a witness.

He was arraigned on Tuesday afternoon in Darke County Common Pleas Court in Greenville before Judge Jonathan Hein. Hubbard's bond was set at $75,000.
