Xenia Woman Stabbed With Ice Pick; 1 Arrested

Tuesday, August 7, 2007 – updated: 12:12 pm EDT August 7, 2007

Police said two women got into a fight early Tuesday morning, leaving one stabbed with an ice pick and the other behind bars.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. at a home on East Market Street.

Sandra Matthews, 54, was charged with felonious assault. Police said she took an ice pick and stabbed 67-year-old Maria Thomlison in the left ear, causing life-threatening injuries.

Neighbors said the couple had been living together for a couple of months. However, police said it appears that there may have been problems before.

Medics said the ice pick was lodged in Thomlinson’s skull. She was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital and then flown by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital.

Police questioned and then arrested Matthews in connection with the incident.
