Duct Work Collapses In School Gym

Monday, October 8, 2007 – updated: 11:28 pm EDT October 8, 2007

Students at some Springfield schools won’t be going to the gym for exercise for a while.

That’s because part of a Springfield school gymnasium came tumbling down over the weekend.

Monday staff at Roosevelt Middle School discovered that some duct work in the heating and air conditioning system had collapsed in the gym.

Staff sealed off the gym and now a team of school and city officials is investigating what happened.

As a precaution, all of the gyms in Springfield schools are closed as well until all the duct work can be inspected.

No one was in the gym at Roosevelt Middle School when the duct work fell.
