COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted said Wednesday he plans to call for legislative hearings to investigate reported cases of teacher misconduct in public schools. The reports came in the Columbus Dispatch, detailing how several teachers were convicted of improper behavior with students and managed to keep their teaching licenses. In a written statement, Husted said he will use subpoena power to bring people before the House Education Committee.“If a sexual offender can’t live within 1,000 feet of a school, how is it that a sexual offender would be allowed to teach in a school?” Husted said.Husted said most teachers do a great job but a few are tarnishing the profession.Among other problems, the Dispatch report found that since 2000, 85 educators have had sex with students.Jim.otte@whiotv.com
