Turner Announces $230M In BRAC Funding For WPAFB

DAYTON, Ohio -- Rep. Mike Turner announced Monday that $230 million in Base Realignment and Closure construction funds have been earmarked for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.The funds are included in the pending conference report to the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2008.The funding places WPAFB on track to receive 1,000 jobs that are to come to the base as a result of the 2005 BRAC.Turner said the funds will go toward the construction of important facilities at the base such as the Aero Medical Research Laboratories, facilities for the Air Force Research Laboratories, and the Air Force School of Aviation Medicine.This year, Turner testified before the House Budget Committee regarding the importance of this funding to WPAFB and the entire Dayton region. The Military Construction bill has passed the House and Senates with Turner’s support.The House and Senate are expected to vote on final passage of the conference agreement in December.
