Ohio Bridges Inspected For Deadly Defect

The National Transportation Safety Board said too-thin gusset plates caused last year's deadly collapse of a bridge in Minneapolis. And that has raised concerns about similar bridges across the country.

The Ohio Department of Transportation said Wednesday it's ahead of the curve in bridge inspections and already carefully examines the steel plates that connect bridge beams.

ODOT's Deputy Director said Ohio requires an annual inspection of every bridge in the state and has included gusset-plate inspection in those reviews since 1996.

13 people were killed in the Minneapolis accident, 145 were injured.
