Students Wait For Decision On Assistant Principal

Springfield School Officials Continue Their Investigation Into Allegations Against High School Assistant Principal

South High School students continue to wait for a decision regarding the fate of assistant principal Karl Perkins.

Perkins has been at the center of an investigation into allegations that he penned erotic poetry under the pseudonym "Antonio Love."

Springfield City Schools officials placed Perkins on administrative leave earlier this month while they conducted the investigation.

Some students had hoped to hear a decision about Perkins' fate during Wednesday's Board of Education Meeting. However, school board officials made it clear the public board meeting was not the appropriate venue.

"The investigation concerning Mr. Perkins is ongoing so it would be inappropriate for there to be any public discussion," said Donna Picklesimer, Board of Education president.

Picklesimer said school officials had hoped the investigation would be complete by now, but snow days and new information has delayed a decision.

Kaylib Weaver, a sophomore at South High School, tried to speak to the Board about the investigation. He was turned away, but has collected a petition with 146 signatures in support of Perkins. He said Perkins is a great man and role model who should not be punished for activities he did outside of work.

School officials said their investigation is looking into whether Perkins violated the code of conduct for educators.
