TROY, Ohio -- Some Troy High School students are out of class, and could spend time in juvenile detention at the West Central Juvenile Facility near Troy if convicted. The Miami County Prosecutor’s Office has charged seven teenagers who authorities believe took prescription drugs before school earlier this week.Authorities said six students, four girls and two boys, have been charged with drug abuse. Another girl, a 16-year-old student, is facing six counts of felony drug trafficking charges. The charges are serious because police said the pill exchange happened within 1,000 feet of the school. The incident happened Tuesday morning when authorities said the female student brought drugs to school to share or sell.Police said the drugs that were taken were Percocet, Xanax, Seroquel and a mix of other prescription and over-the-count drugs.According to police, students were acting groggy and out of it in class. That is what alerted them to the drug abuse.Six students were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment.Authorities said the teen who was handing out the pills could spend at least two years in the Juvenile Detention Center, and more time in prison.Officers told News Center 7 that they hope the girl will receive court-ordered counseling. They said this is the third incident at Troy High School this year. The superintendent’s office said all seven students will likely be suspended or expelled, based on their role in the drug incident.
