Thursday, March 20, 2008 – updated: 9:37 pm EDT March 21, 2008

Greenville Police said they followed all department policies Thursday while chasing a car that left a Greenville gas station without paying. Friday, they released cruiser cam video of that chase.

The driver, 37 year old Maryann Chaney of near Bradford, led police in two counties on the high-speed chase in a van.

Chaney is still in the hospital after crashing the van into a State Highway Patrol cruiser and a utility pole.

Authorities said the incident began in Greenville said around 9:50 a.m. Thursday, when they got a call that the driver of a van left the Northtowne Sunoco station on East Russ Road without paying.

The vehicle was spotted at 10:17 a.m. and was pursued by an officer eastbound on Kruckenburg Road. The pursuit then went eastbound onto U.S. Route 36.

Deputies from Darke County picked up the pursuit near Smith Road, and managed to get the vehicle to stop just prior to Route 721 near Bradford. Investigators said as deputies began to exit their cruisers, the vehicle took off and went into Miami County.

The pursuit continued to the edge of Troy on Route 41 when stop stocks were placed on the road by Troy police near Washington Road.

Investigators said the van crashed into a cruiser driven by Trooper Jim Schlotterbeck from the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and then struck a utility pole. Trooper Schlotterbeck and patrol auxiliary officer Doug Luken were both released from the hospital.

Police said a passenger in the car, Brian J. Tennant, 37, of Greenville, was also injured, but not seriously. He was treated and released from Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy. Tennant was not charged with anything.

Troopers have charged Chaney with felonious assault on a police officer, felonious assault, felony fleeing and a misdemeanor charge of theft filed by Greenville police.
