DAYTON, Ohio -- Authorities said charges were filed Monday against an inmate who allegedly escaped work detail, carjacked a woman’s SUV and led officers on a high-speed chase.

Shawn Fleming, 34, was charged with grand theft auto, escape and robbery,

Last week, police said Fleming was picking up trash on Webster Street when he escaped. They said he carjacked a vehicle, and led officers on a chase through two counties before crashing into a pole in Fairborn.

Fleming is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday. However, he remains hospitalized.
