Local Businesses Affected By Soaring Gas Prices

KETTERING, Ohio -- Gasoline prices are reaching new heights around the Miami Valley.At noon on Wednesday, pumps jumped from $3.47 per gallon to $3.80 per gallon. Oil prices surged, too, topping a record $120 a barrel in Wednesday’s future trading.For More Gas Info: Gas Price SectionMany motorists said they are frustrated at this spike in gas prices and are changing their lifestyle to accommodate for the pain at the pump.Some have resorted to selling their belongings online, on eBay. “A lot of people are parting with things because their expenses are too high,” says Centerville eBay store manager, Kevin Bowser.Others are resorting to buying new bikes or refurbishing old ones. The Kettering Bike Shop said more people are willing to spend several hundred dollars on a bicycle in order to escape the regular strain of high gas prices.Some analysts predict prices will rise to a national average of $4 in coming weeks.And, with Mother’s Day this Sunday, local florists are swamped and they said gas prices are cutting into their profits but they are not passing the cost onto their customers.They said they have decided not to have exotic flowers delivered to their stores because they are too pricy to ship.
