Local Florist Feels Effects Of Soaring Gas Prices

KETTERING, Ohio -- One local florist is feeling the effects of soaring gas prices. And, with Mother’s Day this weekend, there may be an extra charge for the delivery of flowers.Flowerama in Kettering is a locally owned business with three stores in the Dayton area. And, it is having trouble keeping costs down. In fact, it wanted to truck in a shipment of exotic flowers from Florida to go with the local arrangement, but sticker shock ruined that plan.

She said it was going to cost the business as much for the fuel as for the plants.So far, the store has avoided adding an extra charge to their standard $7 and $12 delivery charge. It said they save by buying as many plants and flowers as they can locally.The store said it is relieved that they have not had to add a fuel surcharge for deliveries. However, it said if gas prices go over $4 a gallon, they might have to consider that.Flowerama is going to be open extra hours on Sunday for last-minute Mother’s Day gifts. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
