Former Game Warden Accepts Plea Agreement In Miami Co.

Monday, May 12, 2008 – updated: 7:15 pm EDT May 12, 2008

A former game warden who was assigned to Miami County accepted a plea bargain.

The plea bargain is the result of an investigation that accuses the wildlife officer of baiting a field to lure game birds into the sights of firearms in the hands of a couple of hunters.

Jason Snyder, 35, of Tipp City, served as the game warden in Miami County with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for a number of years until he resigned in October of last year.

He appeared in court Monday and pleaded guilty to tampering with records and falsification.

Snyder could get a maximum of five years in prison on the tampering with records charges and an additional year for falsification. His fines could total $12,500.

The plea bargain is that the prosecutor will remain silent when it comes to sentencing, offering no recommendation to Judge Jeffrey Welbaum as to the punishment.

Luring game birds for hunting is a violation of Ohio and federal laws.
