Man Arraigned, Released For Marijuana Grow Operation

DARKE COUNTY, Ohio -- Darke County Drug Task Force officials said they received information about a marijuana grow operation in the village of Gettysburg.Darke County deputies said the operation was located in 161 West Main Street in Gettysburg, Ohio. A search warrant was obtained for this location and was served.During the search, a marijuana grow operation was discovered, deputies said. There were 58 marijuana plants that were valued at $1,000 each were found along with equipment used to cultivate marijuana.Detectives said that while executing the warrant, a male subject fled out a rear door and dumped a red gym bag in the trash can behind a home across the street from the original search location.Upon searching another residence on 164 West Main Street, more drug paraphernalia and marijuana was found, said authorities.William Don Sturgill, age 50, owner of both properties, was arrested and charged with cultivation of marijuana within 1,000 feet of the Greenville Junior High School.Sturgill was arraigned in court on Monday and was released on his own recognizance by Judge Jonathan Hein of the Darke County Court of Common Pleas.The case is still under investigation. Additional charges against Sturgill are possible.
