City Of Dayton Feels Effects Of Rising Gas Prices

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 – updated: 4:01 pm EDT May 14, 2008

Dayton city leaders said the city is over budget on its gas bill and leaders are now looking for ways to save money.

City vehicles use a gas station on Monument Avenue in Dayton to fill their tanks. The money that is used to buy the gas is paid for using city funds.

Dayton City Manager Rashad Young said the city’s budget allowed for gas prices at $3.25 a gallon. However, he said the city was not prepared for $4 a gallon.

According to Young, the city is now taking corrective measures to help fund gas. He said that every city department is being asked to tighten its buget.

The city of Dayton said it pays for gas for the fire department, police department, street crew vehicles and city vehicles.
