DAYTON, Ohio -- Record high gas prices are greeting Memorial Day weekend traverls in Ohio and the Miami Valley.

The Daily Triple-A survey shows the statewide average cost of regular unleaded has reached an all-time high of $3.96 per gallon. However, most gasoline stations in the Miami Valley are selling regular unleaded at $3.999 a gallon.

The price of regular unleaded gasoline jumped to an all-time high Wednesday, possibly changing some Memorial Day weekend travel plans. The $3.999 mark is 21 cents a gallon higher than Tuesday's average price in the Miami Valley, according to News Center 7 partner GasBuddy Inc.

Just before the Memorial day weekend last year, regular unleaded gas was averaging $3.40 a gallon in Ohio, a record that stood until last month.

Web sites where consumer spotters post prices in their neighborhoods indicate that many gas stations in the state are already charging more than $4.00 for regular. In Toledo, the average is $4.01, the highest in the state so far.

The Triple-A said the national average could easly blast by $4.00 in the coming weeks.

Some people said that gas prices are so high that they are not celebrating the Memorial Day weekend the way the used too. Officials at Triple-A here in the Miami Valley said travel is expected to be lower this holiday weekend.

And, if you are a boating enthusiast, then you better be prepared to bring your wallet as fuel for boats is also high.

William Flynn and his father-in-law spent the day fishing at Caesar Creek Lake in Warren County. They said it took about $130 to fill up the boat with fuel. Flynn said the fuel lasts about six hours if you are running and playing in the water.
