WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio -- Authorities in West Carrollton said they have identified the pilot who was killed in a plane crash Tuesday morning near a residential area. The Ohio State Patrol said the crash happened around 11 a.m. on Hydraulic Road near N. Alex Road. Investigators said the plane had just taken off from the Moraine Air Field when the crash happened.Troopers said the pilot of the aircraft, Leonard Notek, was killed when the plane crashed. They said a woman, who has been identified as Notek's girlfriend, has been identified as Nikki Romero of Colorado. She was taken by Careflight to a local hospital.Witnesses said Notek and his female passenger had just taken off from the Moraine Air Field and was headed to Reno, Nevada, to deliver the plane to a buyer. They said Notek was too low, clipped a utility pole and crashed into ground, narrowly missing a house.Officials at the air park said that when taking off from the airport, pilots are to take an immediate left turn, but they said Notek did not do that Tuesday morning and did not gain enough altitude.Notek is originally from Beavercreek, but has been living in Castle Rock, Colo.Friends of the couple said the plane is a single-engine Helton Lark 95, which is a vintage aircraft and is about 60 years old.
