FAIRBORN, Ohio -- Authorities said a fire broke out early Friday morning at the Mapleview Apartments in Fairborn.

People living in the complex said they woke up and smelled smoke, and when they looked around, the saw a large fire by a window air-conditioning unit.

Officials said the residents tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but here flames were tool large for them.

Damage was confined to the only one room in the apartment. Firefighters managed to save one cat from the fire. They are looking for another.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
