Suspected Armed Robber Crashes On Highway, Gets Away

Saturday, September 6, 2008 – updated: 12:14 am EDT September 7, 2008

Police in Fairborn are searching for a man who led them on a high-speed pursuit Saturday evening.

Officers said it started with the report of an armed robbery outside a business on Funderburg Road. While investigating the crime, police said they spotted a driver matching the description. When they tried to pull the man over, officers said he sped up, leading them on a chase on 675-South.

Investigators said the driver lost control of the car across from the Colonel Glenn exit, crashing into a wooded area.

Officers said the man ran into the woods and into a neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing the man running out of the woods.

Police in Beavercreek and Riverside assisted Fairborn officers in the search for the suspect, but were unsuccessful. However, officers said they have identified the registered owner of the vehicle that crashed.

Officers said they are uncertain if the man who crashed the car is the same person responsible for the robbery. They said it is possible he refused to pull over for a different reason.

Fairborn police said the case is still under investigation.
