DAYTON, Ohio -- A part of Dayton’s history went tumbling down on Sunday. The old Roosevelt High School on West Third Street was demolished.Prior to the demolition, school alumni did a final farewell walk through the school.“This is the first part of my life, happened at Roosevelt,” said Sarah Hayes, who attended the school from 1970 until 1974. “First time I learned how to drive. First time I learned how to swim. First time I learned how to type.”Hayes said she has carried those skills through life and is sad to see the school go.At one time, Roosevelt High School was the biggest school east of the Mississippi River with two gyms, two pools and an indoor track.Future plans for the site include building an all-boys school and a recreation center.
