Police in Dayton said two 17-year-old boys have been arrested and charged in the death of another 17-year-old who was shot in the back.

The shooting happened Thursday morning at a bus stop at the intersection of Santa Clara and Wheatley avenues. Officers said they questioned and arrested one 17-year-old and charged him with murder on Thursday.

Since then, police said they have arrested a second 17-year-old and charged him with murder and tampering with evidence.

Officers said Damarion Flippin, 17, was at the bus stop with his girlfriend when a another group of teens arrived and initiated a fight. Officers said Flippin's girlfriend ran to get help, and when she returned, she found Flippin alone and injured.

The initial call to police came out as an assault, but once paramedics arrived they found a gunshot wound to Flippin's back.

"I was like, 'Baby, are you OK? Are you OK?' and he said, 'I'm all right,' and was still talking and stuff and moving," said Shantae Lewis, Flippin's girlfriend. "Then (paramedics) started touching his stomach and he started screaming."

Flippin was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and rushed into surgery. Authorities originally believed the teenager would survive, but they were notified early Thursday afternoon that he died.

Dayton police said they believe the shooting happened over a prior disagreement at school.

"We all go to the same school. We all go to ISUS and it was just a whole thing about a rumor that had been started awhile back," Lewis said.

Authorities returned to the bus stop after Flippin's death and located a shell casing to the bullet they believe killed the teenager.

Officers said they have identified several witnesses to the crime and are currently searching for a 13-year-old who may have been involved.

Anyone with information on the murder should contact Dayton police at 937-333-COPS.
