CLARK COUNTY, Ohio -- Acting on a tip, Kettering police spent the day searching for the body of Erica Baker at Enon Beach in Clark County. The 9-year-old Kettering girl went missing on Feb. 7, 1999, while walking her dog near the Kettering Recreation Center.Police searched a wooded area off Interstate 70 and Route 4 near the pond, based on an anonymous tip.Investigators did not find Erica's remains, but did take some pieces of evidence in for testing. The search was called off shortly before 5:00 p.m. Police officials also said this is one of many searches they have conducted over the years based on tips.Officer Bill Torok said, "Our hopes are each time, that it's going to be the one."Finding Baker has been a top priority for Kettering police ever since the day she disappeared. The search even went nationwide in 1999, when her story was featured on "America's Most Wanted." Actress Sarah Jessica Parker appeared in a public service announcement asking for information about Baker. In the years to follow, Kettering police released age progression sketches of Baker in case she was still alive. But, the case remained cold until 2005, when Christian Gabriel was convicted of tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse. At his trial, it was revealed that Gabriel was driving a van that struck and killed Baker. He said he put the little girl's body in the van and fled the Kettering area. He claimed he buried her but he never led detectives to the burial spot.Gabriel is the only person ever to be charged in the case. He is currently in prison serving six years and is scheduled to be released in July of 2011.Previous Stories On Erica Baker
