IRS: Be Aware Of Suspicious E-Mails

It would be nice to have a few extra hundred dollars before the holidays and that may be the case for you if you haven’t gotten your economic stimulus payment.

If you are one of the ones still waiting on your check, you may want to watch out for people trying to take it from you.

Even before those first stimulus payments rolled off the presses there were people just waiting to get a cut of your money.

The IRS said some of incidents often come in waves. The latest wave of suspicious e-mails comes at the IRS’s Nov. 28 deadline approaches for people on the undelivered stimulus check list to get their correct address to the IRS.

Many of those emails ask for information the IRS would never ask for, such as an ATM card number, password or pin number.

IRS spokesperson Eric Erickson said, “We don’t initiate contact with a tax payer by email.”

People should be aware if they get a phone call or an email mail regarding their stimulus check.
