Friday, November 21, 2008 – updated: 6:17 pm EST November 21, 2008

Police in New Lebanon have a 14-year-old boy in custody for writing a threatening note. The note, found in a hallway at Dixie Middle School, threatened the lives of the students.

Barbara Curry, the Superintendent at New Lebanon Schools said the district takes threats against the school, staff or students very seriously.

Investigators said the 8th grader is accused of threatening a school shooting and was arrested Wednesday.

Police said another student found the note in the hallway that revealed the teen’s plans for the shooting. They said the note did not give a specific date or target.

School officials said the school was placed on external lockdown until the student was taken into custody.

Superintendent Barbara Curry said, "We do take all threats seriously at New Lebanon Local Schools." She went on to say, "Once a note or threat is located, it is investigated thoroughly."

Authorities said they are trying to determine if the note was a joke or a serious threat.

The teen is being held in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with one count of felony inducing panic.
