Fire Erupts In High-Rise Apartment Building

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Smoke filled a high-rise apartment building and forced elderly and disabled residents out into the cold.The fire happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of North Main Street at the Brookview Highrise in Harrison Township.Fire officials said the fire was contained to an apartment on the second floor. They said the fire was contained to a stove in the apartment.Authorities said four people have been taken to a local hospital for injuries. They said the victim of the burned apartment suffered smoke inhalation, while three others had injuries from pre-existing medical conditions.Fire officials said one woman suffered a head injury while being evacuated from the structure.Firefighters said food had been left on stove in the second-floor apartment and caught fire.Residents who were originally evacuated have been allowed back in but are being held in the first-floor recreation room.
