3 Women Injured In Greene Co. Rollover

State Troopers said three women were seriously injured after the SUV they were in drifted off a country road in Greene County.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. Thursday on Old U.S. Route 35 just east of Hogeye Road between Jamestown and Cedarville.

Ohio State Patrol investigators said that the women were traveling in a 1992 Ford Explorer and had just come through a sharp, hairpin curve in the road when the wreck happened.

Troopers said the driver lost control and went off the right side of the road, slamming into a wooden utility pole. The vehicle then rolled side-over-side and came to rest upside down in a field.

The impact crumpled the Explorer and two of the three young women inside were trapped in the wreckage.

Investigators said firefighters had to cut doors and other panels off the vehicle to get to the front seat passenger and the driver.

It took a full hour to cut the front seat passenger free and her injuries were serious enough that she was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton aboard Careflight.

The driver and a rear seat passenger were both taken to Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia.

State troopers said all the women are in their early 20s and none of them were wearing their seat belts.

Investigators said it also appears the women were drinking and driving, and believed that alcohol played a role in the crash.

Sgt. Gurjit Grewal of the Xenia Post of the OSP said, "Obviously, we discourage people from doing that, you can see the result of using alcohol while driving".

Troopers said the driver, Dena Fankell, of Xenia, could be charged with OVI and failure to control the vehicle. All of the women will be cited for not wearing a seat belt, investigators said.

Troopers have not released any details on Fankell's condition or the condition of the two passengers who have yet to be identified.
