PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio -- A man was launched onto the hood and windshield of a car after he was hit and the Ohio State Patrol said the driver of that car will not face any charges. The crash happened about 11 p.m. Thursday on South Sample Street in the Preble County village of West Alexandria.Troopers were called to investigate the report of a pedestrian being hit. When they arrived, the found an injured man down on the ground and the driver of a car that had apparently struck him.According to troopers, the street does not have any street lights and the only illumination came from the driver's headlights.Investigators believe the victim walked out from behind some bushes and into the path of the car without warning.Sgt. David Robison said, "The pedestrian came out onto the roadway, probably came out onto the roadway, the vehicle was traveling down the roadway and didn't have a chance to get stopped before he struck him."The impact was at the front of the car and sent the victim flipping up onto the hood and front windshield, the man then rolled over and off the right side of the car, tearing off the side mirror as he fell.Paramedics were concerned about possible unseen head injuries and internal bleeding to the victim. They decided to use the most direct route to emergency medical care and called Careflight to take the man to Miami Valley Hospital.Troopers said doctors did not uncover any alarming hidden problems and now believe the man's injuries are not life-threatening.Meanwhile, investigators looking at the accident scene found signs of hard braking by the driver. They said it looks like the driver did everything he could have with almost no time to react.Robison said, "No, there will be no charges against the driver at this time, unless something else comes up in the investigation."Troopers said the driver was not speeding and was not impaired.
