Police in Dayton said some Franklin Montessori School students were taken to a local hospital after a bus accident.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in the 100 block of Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Mercer Street in Dayton.

A spokesperson with Dayton Public Schools said the bus driver was forced to slam on the brakes in order to avoid a bigger crisis, and that is when students went flying forward.

News Center 7 has learned that seven children complained of neck injuries. They were taken to Children’s Medical Center for treatment.

According to a spokesperson with Dayton Schools, the bus driver was on her normal route, taking students home, when a car pulled out in front of the bus, forcing the driver to slam the brakes.

Officials said there 24 students on the bus at the time.

Patricia Black, who is a parent, said, “Some were scared, some were crying, and some were nervous.”

One student who was on the bus said some of the students fell into the aisle and others hit their heads on the window.

Officials said none of the injuries are serious and the children will be OK.
